The lost identity.
She constantly craved for acceptance. From her friends, from
her extended family and from everyone else she knew.
For her friends, she needed to be the person she could never
be. They wanted her to drink with them; they wanted her to ‘hang around’ with them at odd
hours for all their visits to the latest hot-spots in the city. She felt out of
place. She never understood how people who were once friends now saw and made
her feel like an outcast.
Her extended family thought of her as an over achiever. She,
for them, was a woman who was too ambitious, career oriented and strong. Strong
women like her don’t make great wives or daughter-in-laws, they believed and
said. She learnt to cook like a pro, take care of a home like a seasoned wife
and to entertain guests like a trained hostess. Still, it was never enough. She
was never good enough.
She kept juggling in her many roles. Spending time with her
friends now felt like a burden. Going home wasn't an option on most days. She kept
looking for ways to balance out the career-woman, homemaker and pub hopper
roles.
Once when she looked back on her life and her achievements,
she found nothing. She had no identity of her own. Trying to be so many people,
she had stopped being the one person she had always wanted to be – herself…

Truth and lies.
He was lying on the hospital bed, his heart had given up on him. But honestly, it didn't bother him much. This stint in the hospital meant he could get closer to the love of his life, Sonia.
He was aghast when his best friend, Ram, disapproved of Sonia. 'Something about her eyes bother me a lot, I can't place my finger on what', he had said. He had nobody else in his life except Ram. He had no idea why Ram had said that Sonia was after his money.
She had come into his life after he had gotten extremely rich, but that was merely a coincidence. Sonia, uncannily, knew every little detail about him and his past. 'That's just how much I love you, darling', she had said.
He was going to tell Ram how he was so wrong about Sonia. This week long stay in the hospital would make sure Ram saw how much Sonia loved him.
He wanted to tell Sonia about Ram's displeasure. He did. He was scared how she would take it.
Sonia said 'that's sad'. He expected to see tear in her eyes when she turned to him. Instead, he saw a wicked gleam that reflected in the knife she held up.
That was the last thing he ever saw...

The voices.
You told me about the voices in your head,
I ponder about those.
I also wonder aloud,
why each other we chose.
The voices push you deeper into the dark,
While I try to show you how beautiful the day is!
When they try to tell you how you mean nothing to anyone,
I try to show you how untrue what they say is.
While you are pushed farther into the abyss,
look up and recognize the light of the stars.
Hold on to my hand, my love,
I wait eternally for you, to give you my life and to wash away your scars...

Kavya and I...
He lived with three other friends in his glass enclosure.
Last morning he had felt weak. It strained him far too much
to even nibble on his food. He only ate because Kavya fed him. Her love made him want to scream at his God
for deciding to take him away so soon.
His friends supported him all they could. Every time he
wanted to give up, they reminded him that he needed to live, for Kavya. Giving up
meant hurting her beyond comprehension and he knew it.
He wanted to live on and
on, forever, for Kavya.
Finally, seven days later, he died.
Kavya sobbed to her mother “Maa, my goldfish is no more!”

Murder
They said all the words they could, calling her names, tearing
her apart. Tears flowing, she plotted revenge.
She failed, she loved them too much.
They later apologized for everything.
Little did they know how they had wounded her soul, little
did they know they had killed someone.

The new neighbour
I was new in the neighbourhood. While I went around talking
to everyone trying to make friends, there was one woman I could not take my
eyes off.
She was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. But, something about her eyes troubled me. There was no light
in those eyes. Empty and dark, they looked like bottomless wells. The next
thing I saw was the bruise on her lips.
She didn't look like she wanted to talk to anyone that day;
I decided to talk to her some other time.
The next morning, I saw a black eye.
